Had an absolutely FANTASTIC holiday

Siobhan Stayed in June 2015

Just back home in Ireland after spending the last 11 nights in the Cave House. Had an absolutely FANTASTIC holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The facilities were second to none - gorgeous pool, tennis court, boules, pool table, giant chess, trampoline, games room with table tennis & darts, satellite TV, DVD player with wide selection of DVDs, mini library, board games cabinet and wifi of course!!!!! I'm sure I'm forgetting lots more. Didn't have enough time to do everything!!!!!! And the fresh eggs supplied by the chickens on site was also greatly appreciated!! The cave (yes an actual cave!!) house itself was fabulous. Hugely spacious, cool (temperature AND quirky!!!), clean and extremely well equipped. Particularly loved the dishwasher and basic supplies - soaps, detergents, olive oil, salt, sugar etc. many thanks to Helen, Warren and 2 boys for your lovely hospitality.

Relaxing, yet active!

Paul Y Stayed in July 2014

A very enjoyable stay! Warren and Helen are very welcoming hosts, and we must thank them for arranging a stunning highlight of our holiday - a walk/hike/scramble to the top of Pena de la Mina with scores of local people as part of the town's annual fiesta. The views from the summit were breathtaking. We were worried that a cavehouse might seem claustrophobic, but there was plenty of space, and we spent most of our time outdoors lying in the sun, or shade, or in the pool, or playing pool, or barbecueing, or trying to play tennis... The location is very rural, and the scenery is dramatic, which was perfect for us. A hire car is essential, and then you can easily take trips to the beach at El Arenals etc if you want to. We found plenty to keep us occupied for a fortnight. All in all, a very good holiday.

Fantastic Stargazing.

Tom & Gwyneth Stayed in October 2014

Thank you so much!! Exactly the holiday we were looking for - plenty of peace for the big yins and plenty to do for the kids. Lovely surroundings and welcoming hosts have made this a lovely experience for all of us.

“A Sunny Autumn Break in the Spanish Hinterland”

Mike & Judy Stayed in October 2014

Five of us (4 adults plus one eleven year old) stayed for the week ending October 2014. The listing description was very accurate so our expectations were fulfilled with respect to the facilities, however the weather was even better than expected. The wide range of facilities ensured that we had plenty to do through the day & evening. The location is clean & quiet, so is perfect for relaxing but we couldn't resist using the mountain bikes provide to explore the locality. The nearest village is a maximum of 15 minutes walk and it is safe for children to cycle, it's small but has a few grocery shops and restaurants. All the locals we met were very friendly & the whole area felt safe. Our hosts were extremely welcoming & helpful - always willing to offer information / make a phone call to the restaurant & organised a car to transfer us from the airport (cheaper than airport prices). They were available but non-intrusive, a perfect balance. Although we did some self-catering a lunchtime menu of the day at the nearest restaurant cost me 10 Euros including two beers & a tip! If you want to visit Alicante & the coastal areas it's probably best to hire a car at the airport on arrival. It's about 8 Km (5 miles) to the town Hondon De Las Nieves. Wifi reception is best outside the Cavehouse & was fast enough for browsing the internet & uploading photos to social sites. There are ample plug sockets for recharging cameras, phones, etc. TV & radio reception were good & an excellent range of DVDs & books were available to use. I would gladly recommend this property to a friend / relative, but please don't book when I want to return! We all said that we would like to return as our stay was so good, I'm thinking of two weeks next time. This is a location for those who want to feel they've visited Spain & not for those who prefer highrise hotels & noisy discos & we loved our stay at Cueva Picpiedra.

Wonderful Holiday

Emma F Stayed in August 2014

This was a wonderful holiday, the house is quiet and very peaceful and the towns nearby offer a range of restaurants and shops, we had a car which was needed. The cave house was clean and tidy and well equipped the beds were comfortable which was great. The pool was a good size for a family and all the other facilities mentioned in the brief (tennis court etc) were very good. We had a very good holiday.

Fantastic, quiet location for a brilliant holiday

Keith & Kate, Clare & Ali Stayed in August 2014

We had a fantastic time at the Cavehouse. Warren and Helen were perfect hosts. Travel from Alicante airport using hire car and satnav is very straightforward and takes about 45 mins. The food hamper was fantastic and kept us going until visiting the local supermarkets, which are a short drive away. The cavehouse is quite spacious and well equipped, with the swimming pool, tennis court, table tennis, pool table, chess and boule all being well used by our teenagers. The local countryside is ideal either for relaxing, running, cycling or walking up one of the many local mountains. We felt very welcome at the Cavehouse, everyone we met was friendly and helpful. If you want to escape the crowds but still have the facilities to have fun with your family or friends this is the place to go!

Get Away From it All

Mick and Kath from London Stayed in June 2013

We have stayed here several times now and loved every minute. If you want to get away from the hoards of tourists or need a bit of peace and quiet to de-stress this is the place to stay. If you like playing tennis you will be in heaven. The owners are lovely and very helpful. You will definitely need a car for this location. We are going back again this summer and can’t wait.

Peaceful and relaxing, a pleasure to experience!

Caroline Stayed in May 2013

I have stayed here a number of times over the years in a small group and this time with a larger family. It is always a pleasure to stay here with a warm welcome and owners who are friendly and attentive. The facilities are lovely and the countryside beautiful. It's not easy to amuse teenagers but there is so much on offer here no-one was bored. Can't wait to return again!

Beautiful setting in real Spain

L & K Essex Stayed in August 2012

The cave house is in a beautiful, peaceful setting very close to the charming little village of La Canalosa. It's ideal for families as there is lots to do in the grounds (swimming/tennis/swingball etc) and would also suit walkers/cyclists etc. Helen and Warren are very helpful and will go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. You will need a car to enjoy all the lovely surroundings. Book it - you won't be sorry. We can't wait to go back!

What a great rural getaway

Michelle T Stayed in July 2012

We arrived at the cave house full of expectations of a good weeks holiday, and we absolutely were not disappointed. The owners greeted us upon arrival, and showed us around, an unexpected bonus was the welcome pack, some simple provisions to get you going, like water, milk, and most important sangria. During our stay they were around if you needed to ask questions, or needed advice, but did not intrude at all. The facilities are just plain fantastic, its even better than it looks in the pictures, The accommodation is well equipped, spacious, and a lovely temperature!!. The pool was clean, well maintained, and not slippery on the steps leading in. Its a fantastic rural getaway in the sun, and our family of 6 had plenty of room, and the children had loads to do. We would thoroughly recommend, and fully intend to visit again.

Great for families and a true taste of Spain

Christine E Stayed in August 2011

We have just returned from a great family holiday in Helen and Warren's cave house. We were thrilled with the accomodation, the grounds and the area. There was so much space inside and outside, lots for our four youngsters/teenagers to do inside and outside. Helen and Warren make you feel extremely welcome into the grounds of their home but leave you to your privacy too. The cave is clean and has everything a larger family could ask for really. It is certainly not Benidorm: it's real Spain, peaceful countryside, home comforts and very welcoming. If you are prepared to drive then you will be fine,It is only a 40 minute drive from Alicante airport, probably much less if you were used to driving on the left! There are lots of interesting places to visit within reasonably short drives. Whilst Canalosa was very quiet (only one restaurant open) during our stay in August due to the traditional Spanish holiday season we did not find this a problem as there are two lovely towns with restaurants, bars, supermarket etc within 5-10 minute drive. You didn't need much more than this if you just wanted to stay at the cave really. La Buena Vida restaurant in Hondon de los Frailes was lovely, great early meal deal but book with them first. Elche was good to visit as a bigger town. We would not hesitate to recommend this to friends and family as long as they appreciate this sort of non-resort type holiday. We would definitely return!

Beautiful location and really warm welcome

Caroline F from Bedford Stayed in April 2011

Helen and Warren and their two boys went out of their way to make us welcome. They were always to hand but never intruded. Our teenage boys loved all the sports facilities and we would highly recommend it to large families with active kids. The cave was much bigger than we imagined with an indoor table tennis table which was great on the cooler days and would also provide respite from the heat of the tennis court in the summer. The area is beautiful, quiet and very Spanish Easter is a great time to visit Spain because of the festivals, although temperatures are cooler than the summer the sun still can be hot . However this didn’t put us off using the pool as it is heated. Apart from the views and variety of entertainment, I personally was delighted to find they have now installed a dishwasher! Thanks you all

October week 2010

H & R from Scotland Stayed in October 2010

On our late arrival. Lots of DVDs and books with satellite TV .. but the table tennis provided even better indoor entertainment for us all. Helen and Warren and the boys were great hosts, arranging an unforgettable paella at a local restaurant one day and pointed us in the right direction for other local attractions..and arranged a great coaching session for our 13 yr old with a local tennis pro. We would recommend the cavehouse to friends for a relaxing holiday amongst beautiful surroundings and friendly local people with lots of activities to keep everyone entertained and all only half an hour from Alicante airport . Thanks Helen and Warren for a lovely holiday!

Really enjoyed our stay

Karen & David from Herts Stayed in August 2010

Helen and Warren's cavehouse offers a really unique holiday experience in rural Spain. It is a chance to truly get away from it all and relax but you certainly won't be bored, with lots of activities to keep the more active members of your family occupied, without leaving the property if you don't want to. The cave house is clean, spacious, well equipped and homely and the facilities in the grounds are superb. The family is welcoming, hospitable and they will make sure you have everything you need to make your holiday a memorable experience. We would definitely recommend this property to other families but you do need a car to enjoy the surrounding areas.

This has to be one of the most relaxing holidays we have had as a family . We were blessed with exceptional weather which always helps. The Location and facilities are everything and more this is an ideal place to relax but with enough to keep the family occupied. Staying in a cave house added novelty and charm .The house was clean and well maintained, containing all the little extras to make our stay very comfortable and easy. A great choice for families or groups wanting a relaxing rural holiday with plenty to do and explore if you so wish. The owners were so welcoming and very helpful with local info, car hire etc making this an excellent holiday choice.

4 of us went there a couple of weeks ago, and we had a great time. The family is very nice and helpful. The amenities are great. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday ( the wine tasting nearby is great by the way !! ) then book it now, you will not be disappointed. I will definitely recommend it and I will certainly go back.

Fantastic family holiday in beautiful surroundings

Wacs from Surrey Stayed in August 2008

We were lucky enough to spend 10 days at this lovely cave house at the end of August, and had a superb holiday. The cave is really lovely with loads of character and the facilities are brilliant, even better than in sounds in the description. The area is very pretty and very spanish and we enjoyed some lovely meals locally as well as enjoying the barbeque at the villa. Helen, Warren and their lovely boys were fantastic hosts and we look forward to returning very soon.

Peaceful and relaxing

Craig M from Hants Stayed in July 2008

We drove from UK with 2 dogs looking for a peaceful and relaxing break. This place offers exactly that and the owners went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. The imediate area offers unlimited walking opportunity with one village close by and a larger town just a few minutes drive away. There are several nice restaurants close by also many more, as well as large shopping complexes, in the larger towns 20 minutes drive away. Beaches are 30-40 minutes drive for a dayout. The Cave was wonderfully cool despite the mid day tempertatures of 35 degrees outside and sleeping was therefore very comfortable. The pool and tennis court are great to have on site and there is plenty to do inside the cave should the weather be poor. All the family really enjoyed our time here.

A wonderfully quiet oasis

Kirsty D, Johnstone, Scotland Stayed in June 2008

A perfect getaway for those who enjoy peace and quiet with the options to swim, play tennis and walk as much as you like. The owners made us feel right at home and were really helpful. All descriptions were accurate. It is fairly remote so a car is a must but the local villages are lovely and there is one within walking distance. The cavehouse is an interesting experience (although tall people will find the low doorways painful at times) and it is lovely and cool during the very hot days.

Haven of tranquility

Susy and Luc Stayed in June 2008

If you're looking for some peace and quiet, start booking your flight and make reservations for this house. Helen and Warren will see to it that you feel right at home, away from home. The cosy cave is very clean and has everything you need.

Less than half a mile away there's Rosa's shop with delicious bread and a small variety of ham, cheese and more wonderful things to go with the bread ... My spanish just didn't reach far enough to ask what all the other stuff was ...

For bigger shoppers there is this fabulous mall only 12 miles away, called L'Aljub. Situated in Elche,it houses a great array of stores including one BIG supermarket and a choice of restaurants on the upper level.

L'Aljub can take a day out of your holiday, but worth it all the way. After this you can take a relaxing dip in the beautifully built pool. Loungers and seats available.
For the "sports" among us there is a well kept tennis court available. The outside BBQ, positioned exactly right next to the outside table, just does the job ... Grilling some local steaks, burgers or chicken finishes the evening in great style.

Thanks again for having us, Helen and Warren !

Best regards from Belgium

We always feel completely relaxed at this villa. It's away from the usual tourist hustle and bustle. The welcome and hospitality from the owners is first class. There is plenty to do for the children to give parents a rest. The Villa is clean, light and airy just as the description says. I recommend you try it, you'll be going back there every year like us!
